WHITE PLAINS, NY – October 19th, 2017 – The ShahGustafsson Foundation is providing logistical support to the disaster relief efforts for Puerto Rico. Working with New York City-based City Harvest, the world’s first food rescue organization, and Feeding America, the nationwide network of food banks, the ShahGustafsson Foundation transported over 82,000 pounds of donated food, water, daily hygiene essentials, diapers, and supplies by freight trucks to Miami. These essential supplies were then airlifted by a 767 cargo aircraft, chartered by the ShahGustafsson Foundation to Aguadilla, on the west side of the island of Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico Food Bank, part of the Feeding America network of food banks, is now assisting in the distribution of those supplies to those in greatest need.

“We are truly saddened to see the widespread destruction and continued difficulties facing our neighbors in Puerto Rico because of Hurricane Maria,” said President of the ShahGustafsson Foundation and CEO of Amur Equipment Finance. “At the same time, we are grateful that through the ShahGustafsson Foundation we have the ability to donate heavy transportation assets to assist our partners and have so many thoughtful volunteers that are making an immediate and positive difference in the daily lives of Puerto Ricans.”

Keiko Niccolini, Managing Director of The Puerto Rico Project at the ShahGustafsson Foundation said, “Puerto Ricans have a critical and on-going need for food, water and essentials as they work to return their lives to normal. With the gracious donations from our fellow citizens, our goal is to continue to assist by transporting the much-needed goods to Puerto Rico.”

To help streamline and accelerate relief efforts, the ShahGustafsson Foundation is currently accepting donations at http://shahgustafssonfoundation.org/ so that additional transportation assets may be provided. Please consider helping our fellow citizens and our combined efforts by donating today!

About City Harvest

City Harvest pioneered food rescue in 1982 and, this year, will collect 59 million pounds of excess food to help feed the nearly 1.3 million New Yorkers struggling to put meals on their tables.  Through relationships with farms, grocers, restaurants, and manufacturers, City Harvest collects nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste and delivers it free of charge to 500 soup kitchens, food pantries and other community food programs across the five boroughs.  In addition, our Healthy Neighborhoods initiative addresses long term food insecurity through community partnerships that work to increase access to affordable and wholesome food.  To learn more about food rescue, Healthy Neighborhoods and fighting hunger in New York City, visit cityharvest.org.

About Feeding America

Feeding America is the nationwide network of 200 food banks that leads the fight against hunger in the United States. Together, we provide food to more than 46 million people through 60,000 food pantries and meal programs in communities across America. Feeding America also supports programs that improve food security among the people we serve; educates the public about the problem of hunger; and advocates for legislation that protects people from going hungry. Individuals, charities, businesses and government all have a role in ending hunger.

As part of Feeding America’s network of food banks, Puerto Rico Food Bank helps 78 municipalities in Puerto Rico, acquiring and distributing more than 4 million pounds of food and grocery products annually. Last year, Puerto Rico Food Bank distributed food and grocery products to more than 110,000 people in need facing hunger in Puerto Rico.
