Database Administrator

Role Overview
This role is to be filled by a “full stack” DBA as it involves management, security, backups and building of high availability clusters hosting the data produced and consumed by our products. This is a hands-on highly technical Database Administrator position which will require gaining intimate knowledge of Amur’s users and architecture. This knowledge will be used to design, secure, automate, maintain, and monitor our database infrastructure. Databases must be designed and maintained at a high level to ensure 99.99% uptime, with acceptable performance and capacity to support data growth. The position will provide other technical teams with the tools and procedures needed for self-service provisioning and configuration. Ongoing responsibilities include developing Standard Operating procedures, Automation, ETL Development, building and configuring databases, monitoring all processes, securing, and maintaining. This position is located in Southern California and must have the ability to work in the Mission Viejo Office. 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
•    Assist in daily administration activities including setup, configuration, and monitoring of database clusters to ensure backups, availability, performance, integrity and security
•    Assist the Development and Support teams to triage database issues and follow the escalation path if needed
•    Installation, configure, manage, and monitor all Microsoft SQL databases supporting web applications and business functions
•    Architect scalable designs to ensure uptime requirements
•    Ensure database infrastructure is patched and running the latest supported versions
•    Support and guide developers on best code practices for query and optimization
•    Support DevOps initiatives in automation projects
•    Assist in the selection, configuration, and the ongoing usage of monitoring tools
•    Troubleshoot and resolve issues without production downtime and in a timely manner
•    Perform data, index, and size validation to ensure databases are performing optimally
•    Maintain all backups and ensure backup designs meet SLA requirements
•    Perform backup testing using automation to ensure backups can be recovered for SLA requirements and test data consistency
•    Keep up to date with latest technologies and solutions for database architecture, included but not limited to, physical servers, virtual machines, cloud solutions, database design, etc.
•    Support NOC with issue escalation and automation
•    Be available for scheduled on-call / shift work, outside of normal business hours
•    Execute database tuning plans to ensure optimal performance
•    Determine, enforce, and document database policies, procedures, and standards
•    Database Continuous Deployment based on Source Control

•    Extensive experience administrating SQL Server Database in Production
•    Working knowledge of some other database technology like Postgres, MySQL, or MongoDB are desired.
•    Experience building Always On High Availability Clusters
•    Produce reports on demand or via BI Tool
•    Strong troubleshooting and performance-tuning skills required
•    Must be able to improve SQL performance results using query execution plans and other optimization tools
•    Demonstrated proficiency in administering databases in a cloud environment
•    Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Jenkins) & container technologies (Docker, CoreOS) is a plus
•    Experience with ETL tools such as SSIS and Reporting such as (SSRS, Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
•    Working knowledge of some other database technology like Postgres, MySQL, or MongoDB are desired
•    Possess a strong understanding of coding concepts (PowerShell, etc)
•    Experience designing overall database stack architectures (server/storage/DMBS)
•    Experience with Database monitoring tools like SolarWinds DPA is a plus
•    Experience in Financial Service industry is a plus

Technical Requirement:
•    BSc / MSc degree (Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or other STEM field) or equivalent work experience
•    5+ years of hands-on experience
•    MCSA/MCSE Certification or equivalent
